The irony of what I’m about to share isn’t lost on me—it’s one of those “you can’t make this up” moments. On February 4th, I posted on LinkedIn about how unpredictable life can be. And, as if to prove my point, life decided to throw me a curveball that very same day.
I wrote about Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert (if you missed it, you can find it [here]). But instead of creating an iconic jazz album or launching someone’s career, my experience was a little different.
First, the important part: I’m okay.
Thank you for asking! I’ll be fine in the long run. The short run? Not so much fun.
So, what happened? I tripped and fell—face-first—onto a concrete sidewalk. I was lucky. The result? A nasty shiner and a badly injured shoulder. My glasses? Despite making direct contact with the pavement, my titanium frames proved their worth—they’re perfectly fine.
A Painful Reminder About Unexpected Change
Oddly enough, this reminds me of leaving a high-stress job years ago. I didn’t see the exact moment of departure coming, but when it arrived, it was clear as day. Painful? Yes. Unexpected? Absolutely. But in hindsight, it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Will this recent fall lead to something transformative? Time will tell.
How This Relates to You
Life can change in an instant. We can’t always predict the specifics, but we can shape our mindset around change.
A few key takeaways:
✅ Build your community. This is exactly why having a strong support system matters. “Many hands make light work” isn’t just a saying—it’s a survival strategy.
✅ Have an emergency fund. If you think you won’t need one, think again.
✅ Be your own advocate. No one will stand up for you better than you can.
✅ Show up—for yourself. Yes, community is important, but your own resilience and mindset are just as critical.
A Brief Break (But I’ll Be Back!)
I’ll be stepping away from posting for a little while, but rest assured, but I’ll be gathering plenty of insights to share when I’m back. In the meantime, take care of yourself—and stay steady on those sidewalks!
That dog in the picture? Not mine but so darn cute!
